Thick and Thin

Ever wonder what it's like for young Black girls, being told about the importance of being thick and thin at the same time?

Black culture tends to prefer thick figures. But that does not mean Black girls don't feel the pressure to be thin. On the contrary, they may feel the pressure to be both thick and thin. And fatness, just like in the mainstream, is often still frowned upon. All of this can be a recipe for disordered eating…

My new book is the first to explore this conundrum. I show how thick desires and thin dreams collided for me & my sassy friends in 90s L.A.
